Momentum Skills was among twenty four community groups to be recognised at Clydesdale Bank’s Spirit of the Community Awards ceremony in Glasgow.

The Awards, launched in January this year to mark the bank’s 175th anniversary, donated £175,000 between the charities and not-for-profit organisations in recognition of them going the extra mile.

Momentum Skills was presented with a cheque for £5,000 at the event. The donation will be used to set up a pilot project within its Paisley service, aimed at people aged over 16 with mental health or physical addiction issues who reside in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire. The project will offer sessions on computing, confidence building, budgeting, CV creation and benefit advice.

David Thorburn, Chief Executive of Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: “Clydesdale Bank’s Spirit of the Community Awards aim to recognise and support the vital contribution that voluntary and charitable organisations make to their local communities. It has been inspiring to see the great work which is being done at grass roots level across the country.

“Momentum is an extremely deserving winner which has been recognised for its community spirit with an award of £5,000 from Clydesdale Bank.”

Gail Sinclair, Area Manager at Momentum Skills said: “Momentum Skills is very grateful to Clydesdale Bank for this award which will make a huge difference to the people who use our service. It will enable us to enhance our existing services by supporting people to address barriers to employment, access computing opportunities and become more confident individuals.”

Organisations across the third sector in Scotland were invited to enter the award scheme and to demonstrate how they support the local community.

Momentum Skills is part of Momentum, a national charity which seeks to enable and empower disabled and socially excluded people to identify and achieve their goals.
