Employability Fund Success!

Momentum Skills runs the Employability fund, a service funded through the European Social Fund. The service runs in:

• Glasgow
• Renfrewshire
• South Lanarkshire
• Aberdeen
• Scottish Borders
• North Ayrshire

This programme  supports people through the employability fund either by helping them find employment or to develop skills that will support them to find work.

An example of this is Alastair who was referred onto the Momentum run European Social Funded course in April 2017, Alastair had previous experience of working in warehouses as a production operative but had trouble finding new employment in the same industry.

During the initial appointment with his Employment Development Worker an action plan had been drafted to help Alastair develop his job seeking skills, CV and interview techniques to open up other opportunities within the Scottish Borders.

It soon become clear that Alastair had good computer skills but had never thought about using this skill set to get a career in Administration, with help from his Employment Development Worker Alastair soon got up to speed with Microsoft Office and started the in-house ECDL training package in Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook which helps lay a good platform to step up to completing the ECDL Qualification.

Alastair passed this course with flying colours and starts his ECDL course at the beginning of September.

Alastair has now started applying for Admin positions in the Borders and coupled with his qualifications will open up new opportunities for employment.

I never knew I could start looking for a career in Administration and I am so glad to get an opportunity to upskill as it’s a chance now to develop in an area which I have always wanted to work in, but didn’t know how to go about doing it! “ - Alastair
